This portfolio came about while I was in Auckland,
New Zealand working on a documentary. A friend
back in NYC had asked me about the tattoo scene in
New Zealand. Being a photographer, the easiest way
to respond to that question was to show him what I
was seeing while I was there. I started taking a few
portraits of friends I had made, which led to a local
tattoo artist who introduced me to some of his clients,
and the casting unfolded pretty effortlessly. People
are real friendly down there.—ALEXIS BROOKS
